MOMBIE: A Sleep Deprived Mom!

Moms & Sleep Deprivation Mombie is a new word in the dictionary, definition: Someone resembling a living person, characterised by a staggering walk and a blank stare. Caused by having 1 or more children. Unlike a Zombie looking for brains, the Mombie is usually searching for a cup of coffee or glass of wine. So, are you stumbling around like a Zombie, on autopilot and just about functioning, are your eyeballs a red road map and fifty shades of grey underneath? Welcome to motherhood! Sleep Deprived Mothers If you are a new Mom or even second, third time round new

Case Studies On Real Life Postnatal Recovery

Postnatal Tummy Gap   Well, here we are again following on from a recent blog about separation of the midline alias diastasis recti within my own family. The last family blog was all about my eldest daughter who had twins, this time I am talking about another real life case study with another daughter!   My second daughter has three children, the first one was born at home, a natural delivery which went smoothly despite me being slightly apprehensive, true Worry Mommy! The second baby was also a natural delivery but a surprise whopper of a baby girl so I

My Amazing Home Birth

My Amazing Home Birth

My Amazing Home Birth! Well, at last my baby is here so now I can tell you if the baby is a girl or boy it’s name and all about my home birth. On Sunday 25th April we were out most of the day at the UCT rugby fields in Cape Town as my husband was running in the Shawco Relay. It was a lovely day so we watched the race and had a braai although it was a pain to keep being asked why I still hadn’t given birth as by now I was long overdue! I think that

Where Are My Toes! Weeks 37-40

Getting Closer Well on the 2nd April I went back to see the midwife at 37 weeks and everything is going smoothly, my urine test was normal, weight gain fine and the midwife can get four fingers below my ribs which means that the baby has dropped although the head is not engaged as yet. I heard your heartbeat and it seems quite fast which could indicate a girl? I don’t need to see the midwife again until I go into labour as I am so well and healthy which is a good sign. The midwife went through all the signs

Weeks 30-36: The Lots Of Extra Pillows Stage!

Weeks 30-36: The Lots Of Extra Pillows Stage!

Ok so now I am starting to get much bigger and finding a comfortable position to sleep in is difficult without the aid of LOTS of pillows. Baby also doesn’t like some positions and kicks quite violently just to let me know they don’t appreciate it! I am using two huge continental pillows which during the night end up all over the place so two of us are not getting much sleep now. Still teaching but down to aqua and stretch classes, I enjoy getting in the water to teach aqua and baby seems to enjoy it as he/she doesn’t

The Now I Am Blooming Lovely Stage!

The Now I Am Blooming Lovely Stage!

Weeks 21-30: Taken from my pregnancy journal Well, since the scan I am proudly showing all patient souls the image from the scan, they are too polite to ask, ” What is it we are seeing exactly”, so they just humour me by looking anyway. I hate having to cut back on classes but at least I can still teach aqua, body contour and stretch. Due to the low lying placenta I find walking uncomfortable which for a health fitness nut like me is soooooo frustrating! After not feeling any movement for ages the baby is now going crazy and

The “I don’t look pregnant yet” stage…just fat!

The "I don't look pregnant yet" stage...just fat!

Weeks 13- 20 Taken from my pregnancy journal Well, what can I say I just feel fat and frumpy, this baby doesn’t feel real to me at the moment, although my waist is thicker and general shape changing I can’t believe that I am pregnant. Luckily for me no morning sickness – so happy about that as you hear terrible stories! Hoping for some signs of movement, get the odd flutterings rather like butterflies dancing in your tummy but not getting too excited about it as could just be wind! Went to a sale at N1 City and bought a

Boxing Gloves On For A Home Birth

Boxing Gloves On For A Home Birth

Weeks 8-12 taken from my pregnancy journal   After two natural births that were quick and relatively pain free I really wanted to try for a home birth, I had to talk my husband around as he couldn’t understand why I would opt for that when I could get a couple of days in the clinic getting pampered and be in a safe medical setting. I couldn’t be persuaded and once he thought it through agreed it would be nice and he would support me. Next step was to find a midwife as we didn’t have the luxury of Google

My “Surprise” Pregnancy

My "Surprise" Pregnancy

The following post is based on words from my pregnancy journal. Weeks 5-8 To me having a baby is an absolute miracle. It is a true gift of love and in an everchanging world, Mother Nature; through the birth of a new life life reminds us that some things remain unchanged still pure and basic. This baby that I was carrying inside of me was not planned although my husband and I had spoken about having a baby together so this is very much a surprise parcel! I knew that I had conceived before I even missed my monthly menstrual
